Racing Trades v Preview Video

The reason I started this blog was to help people learn to trade. To help develop their skills and techniques to be able to find trades and manage them over lots of different types of market. Judging from the feedback I am getting I think that is being achieved.
I am always looking for ways to improve the content I am providing. For me to be able to keep the high quality content and continue my own trading it takes lots of my time. I want to keep things fresh and interesting. Most importantly relevant.

The feedback I have had from the preview videos has staggered me. So I have a proposal to run by you guys. I only have a certain amount of time I can devote to my blog and helping others. I do it for no profit so I have to draw a line. Currently it’s 3 -4 hours a day. This is not a prelude to “I need to start charging” as some on a racing forum have suggested. On the contary. Access to my blog and my help will remain free for as long as I write the blog, which I hope will be many years.

My proposal is I drop the Racing Trades. Instead I will do a more in depth preview video at an earlier time, This gives you the pointers, the education and the ability to determine your own trades. I will write a comprehensive “How to guide” to show exactly how to find your stop loss position too. I think this way will benefit those wanting to learn. Remember what I keep saying. I am not a tipster 🙂

I want to gauge my loyal readers opinion on this. So please let me know your thoughts. In the comments, by email and in the new poll I have put up.

Thanks MG

  1. I think you’d be better off concentrating on the videos as you’ve suggested mate. Every trader needs to find their own feet at some point and it will benefit them more in the end

  2. you are a top guy,and even if you stopped doing this blog tomorro, you have probably helped more people than you could have dreamt about.if you were a tipster you would probably be the best tipster in the world lol on a serious note thankyou mugs and please keep your blog and education going i love it and follow you every day, dont stress about the tips we all pay our own money and take our own chances.
    thankyou peter

  3. I agree Mugs drop the trades, I have learned a lot from you and I for one would like to learn how to gauge stop loss positions as this would help as I start to find my own trading style.
    Thanks for sharing!

  4. Seems a good idea to me. Learning to choose your own trades is the main part in my opinion. Good luck whatever you decide.

  5. I’ve only recently found your blog but have picked up a lot already from your videos posted on youtube . I’ve been trading pre-race for the best part of the last year and am doing okay but having watched some of your videos I realise that just a few small changes to what I do could improve my performance massively. With this in mind I think a more educational approach to your morning bets would be a big help to anyone looking to learn more about how the markets work. If you simply follow tips without knowing why you are unlikely to have any sort of long-term success. Thanks very much for the blog and keep up the good work.

  6. Thanks everyone for the feedback. You probably all know by now I am not comfortable “tipping”. There are plenty of tipsters out there. Some very good, some just want your cash. The “tips” were necessary to show that I can do what I say I can. I think I have shown that.
My passion and motives are education. When I walk away from trading I want to have been able to change the quality of peoples lives in small small way. The thought that I may be able to help you to take your kids away on holiday for the 1st time in years, or help you replace that old banger, or even pay off some of your mortgage fills me with pride and inspires me.

  7. Coming from Australia and working full time I’m not able to participate in the racing trades due to time differences but the videos that you have shared are definitely a great educational tool. I agree that what time you are generously sharing should be focused towards education as that way I can improve on my beginner skills and eventually look after myself.

FYI, loving the portfolio betting as this is something I can participate in and so I hope this also continues in some manner, maybe with even more ‘guides’ as to how you chose your ‘recommendations’.

    • Hi Alan, I’m just enjoying the Aussie racing, makes my Saturdays a challenge as I am dog tired. That’s pretty much the way I am thinking. There are many who cannot get involved as much as they would like, many cannot get matched either (including myself lol). The Portfolio betting will be dying down soon as the end of the European seasons are close now (about 4 or 5 weeks). The break will enable me to look at adding more comprehensive guides though. I am looking how to add some of the summer leagues too. Such as the Scandinavian and MLS. I like the videos, as they are quicker, and I can get my point across better i think. Although this needs to be backed up with examples and some documentation. Appreciate your feedback mate. MG

  8. The trading videos are excellent, and I am learning lots. These suit me better as they can be less involved ie looking out for stop losses all day. After being at work all day I try to trade any evening or weekend races that look sensible, so far with a certain amout of success, just need to cut out the mistakes. Sometimes i tend to feel like i missed out on a move and then jump in too late only for it to return. But keep up the good work, i’m sure it’s making me a much better trader, and i always look forward to seeing the next lot of trading videos.

  9. Working fulltime I can’t make full use of preview videos but they are helpful to me. At the end of the day I can compare your early morning thoughts to what actually happened. I can appreciate the trading videos must eat into your time.
Wharever you decide to do, I hope the present videos remain on Utube. I often go back to view again several times.

  10. I think it would be a shame to lose the trading videos entirely. Would it be possible to do 2 or 3 a week if there was something of particular interest. 4 a day must be very hard going and can absolutely understand that carrying on at that level is not realistic.

An expanded preview is another bonus.

    You are the man Mugs

    • Nick, I have no intention of stopping trading videos. I just wanted to move away from tips and do more education. I want to keep the video relevant. Doing the same thing over and over is ok to a point, as it drives home my point. But I think they need to have something on them that you can learn from. Wether that’s a good trade or bad. It makes no difference. If there are clear errors, they are good to highlight just as much as doing the right thing. I certainly don’t want everyone to think I get every single trade right. That would not be true as I don’t. As long as people want to see them I can make them. So far I have had nothing but positive comments about them. I am not naive enough to think that will carry on forever. What I would say is I am mad keen Motorcyclist. I save up all my days off for the summer. I haven’t had a day off apart from Good friday and Christmas day since early November. So there are a few due. It shouldn’t impact the blog too much though. MG

  11. I like your proposal MG sounds great to me – I can only echo what everyone else has said above in thanking you for taking the time and effort to produce this site and videos. Top Man, well done, and thank you!

(Incidentally I live in Warwick and when you talk on the videos I could swear that it’s me talking you have a very similar voice but talk more sense! You’re not my neighbour are you? : ) )

  12. Hi Mugs just a wee message to say thanks for all this your doing, iv’e been trying to trade pre race for about 8 months and just couldn’t get my head round it but after watching your videos ( twice ) i traded 5 races on Sunday 4 winning trades and one even trade. I was trying to trade ever race and all the profit i was making was getting eating up by bad trades so keep up the good work and thanks again…

    • Top job Alex. That’s the mistake that so many make. There is a misconception that to win you need to trade EVERY race. I am sure that it’s possible to win every race. But you have to be at the top level of traders. I prefer the easier pickings. It’s so much more enjoyable when you are winning isn’t it? Get used to that feeling, but make sure you don’t become over confident. That is easy to do. It still happens to me! All the best and thanks for your message. MG
